Sorry our update didn't make it until now but it has been a very busy season of mission teams, trips and sickness. Thank you for all your prayers as we travelled back to the states for two weeks in February. It was great to see all so many family and friends, but the cold weather and dry air from heaters was hard on our bodies as we are very used to warm humid weather. Half the family got sick with colds during our time there.
Our church had a great missions conference and blessed us immensely by allowing us to share our story at the Men's breakfast, sunday school classes and small group. It was so encouraging to see people who are praying for us, some of whom we had never met. Our time in the states was absolutely filled with activity. If we did not get to see you, please forgive us! We tried to get around to as many places as we could but there were many people we would have loved to see and did not get to. Please know how much we appreciate everyone who gets our letter and prays for us. Every email, facebook note and phone call mean so very much to us! One young man came up to me and told us he had been praying for us every day. We are very humbled by the love and care of God's people.
We arrived back on Roatan on March 2 with a medical team of 27 people arranged by our partners in ministry, Bill and Melissa Guzman. During that week, our son Eli fell and got the second concussion in four weeks. The fall caused him to have a seizure and we flew him to Tegucigalpa for a CT scan and EEG. It was a time of great distress as he was unconscious for about 3 hours, but even in the midst of the chaos, we saw God's care at every turn. The Lord had even provided a was a doctor on our plane ,who was with another sick person, which gave us great comfort as we would be in the air for over an hour with such an ill child. Every detail was arranged for us and we were amazed at the kind people who helped in so many ways. We give out a huge thank you to Ms.Peggy's Clinic for her help immediately after his fall and in getting us routed to Tegucigalpa. Even though he had experienced a pretty severe trauma to his head, the CT scan showed no swelling or bleeding. We praise Jesus for a miraculous healing and are grateful to have Eli well again. The hospital there in Teguciglapa,Honduran Medical Center, is state-of-the-art with wonderful doctors who treated Eli very well. They were very thorough and both had trained in the U.S.A. The pediatric neuro specialist even gave us his cell phone number. Eli doesn't remember much from that day but is doing great and has had no further seizures.
The medical team helped with two people that fell off the roof that is being built at the church. (Long story ;) ) and with Eli. One doctor commented he hadn't seen this much trauma in years. I said to him, "Welcome to Paradise." and we both had a good laugh. The medical team blessed Roatan by holding health fairs in various communities, doing screening for diabetes, high blood pressure and checking on some elderly people in their homes. They also distributed children's vitamins to several needy communities. Five nurses each day would volunteer in Ms.Peggy's Clinic in Sandy Bay, helping with their busy case load. We are so thankful they would give up their Spring Break and come here to bless others.
Travis is pausing in the ministry at the R Church and is currently helping Calvary Chapel while Pastor Chuck is away in the states for the next eight weeks.
Tish is continuing home schooling our children and helping out with the orphanage and Mazapan. She currently has one of her friends, Jennifer Whicker and her daughter Isabelle down for a week. Isabelle is completing her Capstone project here in Roatan, for her high school project at Christian Academy of Knoxville. She is doing a week of volunteer work at various places including Ms. Peggy's clinic and the children's home. An answered prayer for our family has been the "healing" of our vehicle! We found an excellent mechanic who used to have two shops in the states and he has rebuilt our engine and done many other things to get our car up and going! We are thrilled to have a car that holds our whole family again. And....by God's grace, Travis is currently leading that mechanic in a bible study and discipleship time. Thank you for all who prayed for our car!
En Cristo,
Travis, Tish, Ella, Zachary, Heather & Eli
