IN AUGUST, WE TRAVELED TO THE U.S. & HONDURAN MAINLAND...

We were in the States August 3-17th and were able to speak with many people and a few churches about what God is doing in Honduras. Special thanks to the Ritchies that let us stay in their lake cottage in Knoxville and to Whitestone Inn for the great getaway for Tish's birthday! We feel very blessed by all the love and well wishes we received. We also want to thank Farragut Church of Christ and their members as we were able to present what God is doing during their combined Sunday Schools and had a great time talking and making new friends. We left and flew into San Pedro on the mainland and spent two days visiting Puerto Cortez, a large and historic Spanish fort as well as Joya Grandé, a large zoo outside of Tegucigalpa. It was our first break in a long time and, though busy, was very fun! Our four children have started homeschooling and are partnering with a new family on the Island, the Neighbors in our efforts. Yay!

Travis is continuing to preach at R Church and we have seen a growth of about 20% in the last 3 months which is exciting. Tish is continuing behavioral therapy with children at the orphanage as well as meeting with counseling clients. As I write this, we are holding a Surprise Ice Cream Special at the Orphanage tonight and having their teen girls over tomorrow morning for a craft and Bible Devotional time. We will be taking treat bags to the orphanage on Tuesday for "el dia de los ninos" which is a very big deal for kids here. It is a celebration of children and is the highlight of the year for many.

TEAMS

We are actively working on 2014 team schedules. If your church, youth group, organization or family is interested in coming down, now is the time to start reserving your dates, especially those for the summer months. Team housing books up as well as flights. We have about 3 teams and 2 families scheduled so far. We are hoping for 8 teams and 5 families to accomplish some of the urgent needs.

CURRENT NEEDS

We have two specific families that desperately need housing and basic living supplies. We are doing work this week on one of their houses to restore basic plumbing and fix the roof but long term, the house will not last. We also have encountered an 11 year old child who needs full orthotic leg braces in order to walk. There is opportunity for VBS to the Islander and Spanish communities. Sewing training and construction training for all ages is needed as well. Help with bilingual training, ESL, sports camps, mentoring, jobs training...

FUTURE PLANNING

We are in the early stages of setting up our non-profit status so please pray for that to go through smoothly. We were thinking to name it: Roatan Patriots for Tea. ;)JK We are also looking into setting up a community based savings and loan that is member-funded and member-run to help locals get the capital they need to start businesses as obtaining loans here is near impossible. We have contacted some members of Business as Missions groups and are still looking at various models. Please pray for wisdom here. Travis will be meeting with the Seminary on the island to assess needs and see about possible training opportunities that he can assist with.

MINISTRY TRUCK UPDATE

Our online ordering is working well and a special thank you to those who have ordered in the last few months. Your orders between now and November especially help support our single moms through the current slow season. All proceeds go towards the ministry and supporting these moms. Our friends Jeff and Claudia Dodds currently are selling 32 bags at their church in Pennsylvania with the hopes of selling more!
