Projects abound! As we have stressed, the needs here in Roatan are great. So many families struggle to get through each day without things like running water and electricity that we so take for granted. The Sonrise Mission that we work with does a great job of finding and meeting these needs.
Here is a rundown of upcoming and ongoing projects- of course you are all invited to come help at any time!
Mosquito screening and well/water tank
This will provide Claire’s family (single mom of two) some protection from Dengue fever and malaria that are common here. Currently her house has large gaps at the roof line and insects easily get in. With the addition of a well and water tank, for the first time she will have running water! She is so excited. Daily trips to a well down the road are very time consuming and laborious.
Building a home
Angela and Jose have a home that is on a dangerous cliff where mudslides often take homes down the hill. The mission has found a new piece of land for them and the foundation is under construction (hand dug) now. We are praying to finish before rainy season starts in late November so they can have a safe home for their family, they have small children.
Roof repairs
Single mom Sandra has five children. She was married for many years but sadly, her husband has left her and provides no support. Her kitchen roof has fallen in and needs urgent repair.
Coffee Business
We are in the process of starting up a small coffee roasting/selling business to provide jobs for some of the church members who need them. We are working on a way to get beans from the mainland in green form, so that we can roast them here. We have a roaster and the bags ready to go. Prayers for wisdom in this endeavor would be appreciated. We want this to bless families with needed income! Of course lots of good bible teaching is going on at the church too. As a result, people have been moved to make their relationships official and get married- praise God! Two couples did just that last Friday and Ella played piano for the weddings. Thank you for all the prayers- they are our lifeline and mean so much!
